                                                                                  Book Search Request

Sue Beattie is searching for a book but doesn't know the title or author. She thinks it may be a local publication and she found it in Cartmel Priory in the Lake District about seven  years ago; it discussed how to read a monument. It's certainly a handbook. I'm sure someone out there can help!

Church Monuments
by Brian Kemp
There are unfortunately few book which deal with the subject of church monuments currently available. However I can thoroughly recommend this well illustrated volume by Brian Kemp, Emeritus Professor of History at the University of Reading, was President of the Church Monuments Society 1991-96 and is currently one of our Vice-Presidents. Professor Kemp is a particularly gifted and enthusiastic teacher and, in this book, deals with monuments of all periods in a historical context as well as dealing with such aspects as conservation, symbolism and much else. The book concludes with a list of churches to visit where interesting collections can be found. 32pp; 55 illus. ISBN 0-85263-768-3
This is one of the Shire Books and may be bought from them directly either by credit card or cheque at Cromwell House, Church Street, Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire HP27 9AA. Or visit their
website - http://www.shirebooks.co.uk - where other titles of interest may be found. The current price is £2.95; there is no charge for postage and packing.
